FREE FALLING WORDS

Accompanying Free Falling Music

Each song carries a story, a story that can be put into words.

Each song can carry your story, as it carries mine, his or hers.

AL DI MEOLA

One morning I happened to listen to Al di Meola’s Mediterranean Sundance & wrote down a poem that later turned into the song Down to Our Names.

Al Di Meola’s song should lead you through this reading beautifully.

04.10.07

let’s strip down to our names, my love,

let’s get past our personal history,

let’s lock ourselves in a guitar, and listen to the melody of time

as it continually trickles down the corridors of memory.

*

let’s strip down to our names, my love,

let’s blow astray with a kiss the mist darkening the happiness in the “you” and the “I,”

let’s wrap ourselves in the wrapping of whispers and springs,

like the spring of our love waiting for the summer sun.

*

let’s strip down to our names, my love,

let’s slide down the waterfall of our own laughter,

let’s imagine a world void of gravity,

where all the worries have dissolved into harmless clouds of dust

raised by our feet as we take off into a beautiful unknown.

*

let’s strip down to our names, my love,

let’s leave our guises of foam and frailty,

let’s allow our shadows to embrace themselves until

we’ll have no name on our skin to strip down under.

*

This is how we can lose our names and find ourselves

Down to Our Names, in its turn, was born to suit my music. I played it for friends, and also during my first ALENS concerts. It has not yet been recorded professionally, but it will reappear on future playlists and I keep it in mind as I develop my projects.

Let’s strip down to our names, my baby, let us

Forget about personal history.

Let’s lock a way the time in a guitar, my baby,

Down the corridors of memory.

*

Down, down, down, down, my baby,

Down, down, down to our names.

*

Let’s strip down to our names, my baby, let us

Blow astray the mist and the darkening,

Let’s wrap ourselves in the wrapping of  whispers,

Let’s wrap ourselves in the wrapping of springs.

*

In the wrapping of whispers, baby,

In the wrapping of springs.

*

Let’s strip down to our names, my baby, let us

Forget a bout personal history.

Let’s lock a way the time in a guitar, my baby,

Down the corridors of memory.

*

Down, down, down, down, my baby,

Down, down, down to our names.

**

Do you, do you think about letting go and run your hands through my…

Do you, do you think about telling me

how you feel right now?

**

Are you, are you listening to the beat your heart started

drumming

When you, when you looked at me

and you saw

that desire

***

All of that desire, all of that desire.

****

Down, down, down, down, my baby,

Down, down, down to our names.
